Product Reviews: January

Hey Y'all!

It's finally time for a new blog post! I know that these are so few and far between but honestly, I live a very boring life, and I just don't feel like anything important happens that y'all really need to know about! If you follow me on any kind of social media outlet then you know that in November I started working at ULTA. I love this job you guys. Being able to talk about makeup all day is so much fun and I feel so good when I help someone find a product that really works for them. Since I've started working there, I've purchased quite a few products and I'm going to review those here tonight. There are only a handful of negative reviews, so I'll start with those first to get them out of the way!

Before I get into the product reviews, there is something else that I want to kind of mention. Ever since I was a little girl, I had a dream of starting my own magazine and becoming a national best selling author. Lets be honest, I'll probably never ever start my own magazine, but I have actually started writing my own book! I'm a couple of chapters in, I have someone making some cover art for me, and my husband is helping with me with a lot of the research! In a couple of months, I'm actually going to need a couple of people to proof read my work for me and let me know if they like the plot, character development, all that jazz. If you would be interested, please let me know! It's a supernatural/horror novel, so if you're not into that kind of thing then you probably shouldn't volunteer for this. I'll probably post a lengthier article about my book later on when I've got enough momentum for it built up!

Okay, let's do these reviews!

This first product is by sexy hair and it's the "smooth and seal anti-frizz and shine spray." Everyone loves these products so much, they swear on their mother's grave by them, so I thought I would give this one a try since my hair tends to be really frizzy from all the heat I use. As SOON as I sprayed this in my hair, I immediately had to spray dry shampoo in it because it turned my hair to grease. I'm serious you guys, it was so gross. I also purchased a large can of the spray and play harder hair spray and had to give that one to my aunt because it just turned my hair into a goopy mess. I'm really sad about it because these are decently priced and you can find these everywhere, but they just don't work on my hair. Thankfully, I bought a small travel size in this spray and only spent $3 on it so I didn't waste that much money. I still have this on my desk so if you want this, let me know!

UGH. You guys. I'm so upset about this one. This is the HEMPZ "triple moisture winterberry crème Brule" lotion. Now, there are two versions of this special holiday lotion and the other one is vanilla peppermint and its AMAZING. It has climbed to my number one spot on my favorite lotions of all time. It's seriously that good. It's so soft, it's not greasy at all. It smells like Christmas wonderland and it's just the perfect lotion. Because of that, I decided to get this one thinking that it would be equally amazing. Nope, nope, nope. I'm going to be very blunt here, this smells like straight up asshole. You're probably like what? but you know exactly what I'm talking about. ASSHOLE.  I don't know if I just bought a bad batch or it didn't work with my natural skin scent or something but it's seriously terrible. I'm not even going to attempt to give this away because no one needs to smell like this. I'm going to throw this in the garbage and then go get a squirt of my peppermint lotion. Also, they still have the peppermint ones on clearance for $4 at ULTA. GO GET THEM!

This picture has two pallets both by the brand essence. I honestly didn't know anything about this brand but everyone buys stuff from them all the time so I thought it might be pretty good even though it's SOOOOO cheap. Well. I was wrong.
This one is called "All about Vintage" Eye shadow. What really pulled me into this was the pretty green color in the top right. I also liked the brown on the bottom right and thought the other colors would be good transitional colors. the green and brown colors looked exactly the same when I swatched them and the other 6 colors didn't show up on my skin at all. These are terrible quality and not pigmented at all. They may show up on someone who has much darker skin that me, but with me being so far, they didn't show up at all.

This one is called "All About Roses" Eye shadow. This ended up being exactly like the other pallet. None of the colors showed up on my skin, the two dark ones were so dull and they're just like dust. These were buy one get one half off at ULTA, so I didn't spend too much on them, but I'll probably still take these back because their that bad. They do have single eye shadows and maybe those are better? I'm really not sure. If you've had a good experience with these then let me know! Maybe I'm buying the wrong products from that brand!

This is the last product on my list of items that I did not like. This is by NYX cosmetics and it's the Smokey pallet. This was really disappointing because just like everyone else in the world, I love NYX. I have a couple of their products that I'm going to talk about later on that I love, but this is not one of them. The shades are so dull, so powdery and dusty, I just really wasn't impressed with these at all. I've had this one for quite a while, it wasn't a new purchase, but I can't remember if I got this in an ipsy? I don't know, but either way, I'm really not impressed. I was looking online and it doesn't look like any of their eye shadows really have good reviews at all. If you have one of their eye shadow pallets and you love it, let me know!

Okay, so now that the negatives are out of the way, lets get on to the things that I LOVED!
I'm drooling just thinking about this pallet. This is the "Modern Renaissance" pallet by Anastasia Beverly Hills and OH MY GOD. I promise y'all, these eye shadows are worth every single penny you spend for this. These eye shadows are SO pigmented, they're soft, and they're so versatile. You have some matte shades and then you also have some shimmer shades. It also comes with a really good brush that has a buffer brush on the other end and it's GORGEOUS.

You can tell from this picture that there are a couple of shades that are my absolute favorite. This was taken from an iPad in terrible lighting so those colors are a little darker than they really are.

I did a swatch of all the colors in the palette on my arm so you could see how pigmented they are. There are some beautiful nudes, rust colors, and some beautiful pink/red shades that just make this the most romantic pallet. I seriously use this every time I put makeup on. I would highly recommend this palette to anyone. You can find it at ULTA for a cool $42.

Like I said earlier, I LOVE NYX. This is the liquid suede vault. It is on clearance at ULTA right now because it was a special pack for the holidays and it's worth every penny. These colors are crazy intense y'all. These seriously blew me away with how pigmented they were and how quick they dried. This is one of those I can slap on, kiss my husband as I run out the door to go be fabulous, and it won't leave a mark on his face. Some of these colors are a little too crazy for me but I'm glad I have them on hand just incase I'm feeling adventurous one day.

I swatched all the colors because I really want you guys to understand just how pigmented these are, and these were all just ONE swipe on my arm. The colors are as follows from top to the bottom near my wrist: Jet-Set. Little Denim Dress. Subversive Socialite. Amethyst. Run The World. Sway. Respect The Pink. Pink Lust. Orange County. Foiled Again. Kitten Heels. These swatches are the more vibrant crazy colors I was talking about. The Kitten Heels shade at the bottom is such a pretty red color and I feel like that one could be worn every day!

These are the more "normal" nude shades in the vault and I'll start at the top and go down to the bottom toward my wrist: Alien. Oh, Put It On. Stone Fox. Foul Mouth. Cherry Skies. Club Hopper. Vintage. Downtown Beauty. Brooklyn Thorn. Soft-Spoken. Sandstorm. Tea & Cookies. Life's A Beach. When I wear anything from this vault, these are the array of colors I tend to grab more often. the tea and cookies is probably my favorite shade being a soft nude pink. These lips are 0.05 oz but you can buy the full size bottles in any of these colors AND they have matching lip liners for every color! I would highly advise you to go pick this up because it's almost every color you need!

I'm going to stay on the NYX bandwagon for a minute and talk about this HD studio photogenic finishing powder. I love this stuff. I know that a lot of people use the finishing sprays but those make me really nervous and this just works so great. When I put it on my face it's so cool and refreshing and it gives my face a really nice matte finish. They do have colored finishing powders but I opted for the translucent because I'm so bad at picking out shades for my skin tone. I'm really impressed with the HD studio photogenic products that they have. I also use the primer and I really like it! You can purchase this at ULTA for $10!

This is also a NYX product! It's the super skinny eyeliner marker. I love this eye liner y'all. If you know me at all, you know that I love KAT VON D and she has one of the best eye liners, the tattoo liner. Unfortunately, I can't get up to Sephora where they sell it, so I thought I would give this a try and you guys, it's practically the same thing. It goes on so smooth, it's SO black, and the tip is just flexible enough to be able to do cat eyes and wings. I'm so impressed by this and it's such a good, cheap alternative to the kat von D version. You can get this at ULTA for $10

Moving away from NYX, I'm going to talk about this Revolution "Vivid baked highlighter in Radiance" I believe is the color. Usually for my highlight I would use the NYX highlight/contour pallet in the shade "ice queen" but unfortunately my dog knocked over my pallet and broke EVERYTHING. I had to run out real quick and get something and I really like this! My skin is very fair though so I think I need a lighter shade or two but I love the texture of this and the beautiful pigmentation and sparkle in this highlighter. You guys, so many customers at work buy this stuff so I just automatically went for it and it's so worth it. They have so many different shades and they're only $6! This brand actually makes a lot of quality products. I've watched a couple of artists reviewing their products and it seems like this is a brand to watch out for! They have some eye shadow pallets that are dupes for the UD naked pallets that I might just have to get! ;)

Not to get too excited or anything but I'M IN LOVE WITH THIS. This was a free sample I got from making a purchase so I didn't really think anything about it, but when I put it on, I swear it changed my LIFE. I hope some of you guys get this damn excited about stuff so I don't look like I'm crazy. This is by BUXOM and it's the "full on lip polish" in the shade dolly. I just kind of opened up the package and slathered it on and immediately it felt like it maybe had some mint or something in it because my lips were so cold! I was like okay what is happening am I allergic or what? So I looked at the packaging and it's actually a bit of a lip plumping gloss and oh my gosh it works so good!

This little number PLUMPED up my lips like crazy! Like, are those really my lips? Damn. I've recently tried the too faced extreme lip plumping serum and this gloss actually works so much better! Now this shade doesn't have a lot of color too it so if you wanted to put a nude lipstick underneath the gloss that would look so nice! The other thing I love about this gloss is it's not sticky, like at all. I'm so amazed with this. I want every single shade ever made. It's been four hours and my lips still look plump and glossy. I'm seriously blown away. This is my favorite product I've tried recently. Also, I do want to say that unlike the too faced serum, this does not burn your lips at all. It just has a very intense cooling sensation and it's not irritating at all. These are $20 for a full size bottle at ULTA and there are 100 different colors. That is not a type there are 100 DIFFERENT COLORS. We don't carry them all in store, so if you wanted to go crazy and get every single color you would have to purchase them online.

This may be my new face wash! This month at ULTA we're really pushing skin care because we want our guests to really tae care of their skin to get the ultimate makeup experience, and I swear that's not scripted lol. We have these sets you can buy that are $10 and under that have trial sizes of cleansers, moisturizers, makeup wipes, skin masks, oils, all kinds of stuff! I got the cleanser set that came with 11 products for just $10 and this came in it and I'm in love. I was a little nervous because my skin is sensitive and I never know what's going to happen but this stuff is SO refreshing. It's the Formula 10.0.6 "best face forward daily foaming cleanser with passionfruit and green tea" and it's just the best. It left my skin feeling so fresh and tight and not irritated one bit. I would definitely buy a larger, full size bottle of this and add this to my daily skin care routine for sure. You can buy a large bottle of this at ULTA for $6. You guys, that's such a good deal!

This hairspray is BOMB. This is the CHI brand "keratin finishing spray" and it's so great. It smells heavenly and my hair still feels like hair after I spray it. It's not sticky, it's not stiff, goopy, greasy, anything. This is the best hairspray I've ever used. I got this bottle at TJ MAXX FOR $3 YOU GUYS. $3!!! And you don't need to spray much at all so it's going to last you a while. It really doesn't get much better than that!

Okay, woo. That was kind of a lot. I honestly had more products but I figured I would save some of them for next month because I don't know if I will be buying a lot of new product within this month. That was a joke, I work at ULTA where everything is literally starting me in the face all day whispering, buy me, please. So, whatever, I'll get to those other products eventually!

Let me know if you've tried any of those products and you loved/hated them. And let me know if you have some products that you absolutely couldn't live with out so I can see what they're all about! And if you're reading this right now, that means you've seriously read this whole thing and I thank you for that! It really means enough that you care enough about what I say to read this whole long mess!

See you next time y'all! xx

May/June Product Reviews 2017

Hey Y'all! Lord, I'm so behind. Okay, so these are going to be my monthly product reviews from the last two months, so this one is...
